Westchester Community College was founded in 1946 as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in White Plains. In 1957, the County of Westchester bought the 360-acre John Hartford estate in Valhalla and designated 218 acres for the community college. Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of the Virginia Marx Children's Center, the Head Teacher teaches and supervises children, aligned with the Center's philosophy in order to create developmentally appropriate curriculum implemented daily. The Head Teacher communicates effectively with families, peers and children on a daily basis as well as complies with NYS licensing regulations, NAEYC standards and QUALITYstarsNY criteria.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a high school or equivalency diploma and one of the following:
- An Associate Degree or satisfactory completion 60 credits with at least one course in childhood education, psychology, or involving issues on early childhood development.
- satisfactory completion 60 credits and one year of experience which involved working with children leading them in program areas such as music, history, nature, art, farming, etc.
- An Associate Degree or satisfactory completion 60 credits and one year of experience which involved working with children leading them in program areas such as music, history, nature, art, farming, etc.
- Two years of experience which involved working with children leading them in program areas such as music, history, nature, art, farming, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's Degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of one year of experience working with children between the ages 6 weeks through 5 years also strongly preferred.
Additional Information:
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $47,412 plus excellent benefits.
